Areas West of the Cascades
The weather system rolling in today is relatively strong for this time of year with plenty of wetness in it. Expect rain over most of the western areas except for southern interior Oregon where only isolated sprinkles are possible. A trailing upper level trough of low pressure will keep a chance of showers in the forecast through early Wednesday morning. A surface ridge of high pressure will build on Wednesday to help dry things out.
A cool upper level trough of low pressure will be off the coast through the extended period with a weak system kicking out of the trough on Friday bringing another chance of showers. Higher pressure aloft is forecast to produce warmer weather for the weekend.
The Cascades and Areas East
A Pacific weather system and cold front will move across the eastern areas today. Showers will spread to the eastern mountains by this afternoon. However, very dry air in the lower elevations and down slope westerly winds will inhibit precipitation in the lower Columbia Basin and adjacent foothills. Locally breezy winds will also develop by this afternoon and persist into the evening in the eastern Columbia River Gorge, the Kittitas Valley and the lower Columbia Basin.
A dry and stable westerly flow will return on Wednesday, but with only slightly warmer temperatures.
Dry conditions will be the rule Wednesday night through Sunday with occasional mid and high clouds, particularly Thursday as a weather system passes through northern Washington.
