The NMPRSA Board of Directors has recently made some changes to the fees charged
by NMPRSA. The purpose of the changes was to keep the chapter financially
viable and to more accurately reflect the actual charges encountered by the
organization.

The first change is to the local dues. A survey of all PRSA chapters across the
country showed that the $25 annual local dues charged by NMPRSA were among the
lowest in the nation. The $25 fee has not changed in at least the last 10
years. The board voted to raise local chapter dues to $35 effective July 1,
2007. Fees for retired and associate members will not change.

The second change will be to the luncheon fees, which are the same now as they
were as long as six years ago. Again, the increase in luncheon fees was driven
by the higher costs we are paying for meals at the local hotels where we hold
our meetings. A specific example is the November PRSA luncheon. The Embassy
Suites charged us $20.64 per lunch, including service charge and tax. We
charged $12 for students, $17 for members and $25 for non-members. That means
that we subsidized each student by $8.64, and each member by $3.64, while making
$4.36 on each non-member.

This morning, the Board voted to raise the luncheon fees for students to $15 and
members to $20, but leaving the non-member cost at $25. While the chapter will
still be subsidizing lunches for students and members, it will be my a smaller
margin. The new charges will go into effect on January 1, 2007.

It is always difficult to make the decision to raise fees, but the Board hopes
all members and students understand that it is the reality of the business side
of the organization that drove that decision.
