With the increasing complexity of software requirements, problems of
traditional requirements engineering techniques, including the use
of unstructured text and lists, are becoming increasingly apparent.
This workshop aims to provide a collaborative session in which ideas
related to visualization of requirements and ways of making them
practical are shared, reviewed and debated. The workshop will be
used to identify future work, issues, problems and priorities, and
to propose recommendations around these dimensions for requirements
visualization research.

TOPICS

Topics of interest include experience papers, formal methods,
emerging technologies, best practices, research proposals,
evaluations and comparisons that focus on visualization techniques
for requirements engineering activities. Typical topics of interest
include, but are certainly not limited to:

-- Visualization languages/techniques for requirements
elicitation/analysis/ specification

-- Visualization languages/techniques for formal
verification/validation of requirements

-- Visualization languages/techniques to facilitate the
management/evolution of requirements

-- Visualization support for existing requirements engineering
techniques

-- Heuristics and metrics for visualization techniques

This workshop will be held in conjunction with The 15th IEEE
International Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'07), October
15-19th, 2007, New Delhi, India. A preliminary workshop date has
been set for Monday 15th October, 2007.

Overview

Continue with us on our journey to Business Process Excellence. At
the first two ABPMP speaker events, we learned how a process-centric
enterprise is created and how buy-in is achieved for business
process management initiatives. On October 26, we'll learn how
companies can break down barriers to strategic implementation via
the Solution Triangle: Business Process Management, Project
Management, and the Balanced Scorecard.

It is estimated that only 10% of the organizations execute on their
strategy. Barbara Fuller will give insight into why this occurs.
Through her interactive presentation, we will learn how the use of
the Balanced Scorecard, a management system that links strategy to
performance measurement, integrated with Business Process Management
and Project Management, can help a process-centric organization
translate its vision into action. Her talk will demonstrate the
process of building a Balanced Scorecard and identifying key drivers
for strategic success, and provide practical tools that the
attendees can take away with them.

Speaker: Barbara Fuller, President and Founder of Process and
Project Solutions, Inc [PPS], a management-consulting firm that
specializes in the disciplines of Process and Project Management.
Ms. Fuller brings over twenty years of experience in the field of
Information Technology and Project Management. Her experience
includes managing over 100 projects for a mission critical billing
system with $2 billion in revenue. Barbara also integrated Business
Process Management with Project Management to create a PMO that
reduced software delivery cycle time by 25% and increased
organizational effectiveness by 100%. With a graduate degree in
Systems Approach to Management, Project Management Certification
[PMP], and Process Management Certification, Barbara facilitates a
lively discussion on the Balanced Scorecard and how its use can
break down the barriers and obstacles to success in a process-
centric organization.

Yahoo, world's most popular e-mail, hit by worm

Tue Jun 13, 1:48 AM ET

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Yahoo Inc., the world's largest provider of
e-mail services, said on Monday that a software virus aimed at Yahoo
Mail users had infected "a very small fraction" of its base of more
than 200 million accounts.

The e-mail virus, or worm, has been dubbed Yamanner and landed in Yahoo
mailboxes bearing the headline "New Graphic Site." Once opened, the
message infects the computer and spreads to other users listed in Yahoo
users' e-mail address books, security experts said.

The e-mail containing the virus need only be opened -- in contrast to
most worms that are hidden in attachments and require users to take an
additional step -- to release the virus, according to computer security
site Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC - news).

The Sunnyvale, California-based company advised users to update virus
and firewall software on their computers and to block any e-mail sent
from the address "av3@...."

"We have taken steps to resolve the issue and protect our users from
further attacks of this worm," Yahoo spokeswoman Kelley Podboy said in
a statement.

Richard:

Hope all is well.

Suggestions:

1. How Requirements documentation might be structured and maintained in a
(Barry Boehm) Spiral model environment. What is there about the approach
that suggests the need for altering the waterfall method of requirements
documentation?

2. How requirements documentation might be structured and developed in an
agile development environment. What is the intended agile approach to
requirements documentation?

Dear members-
This is your last chance this season to show some interest in having a SIG
meeting about requirements management. If you have a presenter to recommend, or
a presentation you wish to give, contact me. If you have meeting space
(preferrably in Manhattan) and a projector, contact me.
Thank you.

Genesis Release 2.5

In the beginning, the Project Manager created the Programming
Staff. The Programming Staff was without form and structure.
And the Project Manager said, "Let there be Organization," and
there was Organization. And the Project Manager saw that
Organization was good; and the Project Manager separated the
workers from the supervisors, and he called the
supervisors...."Management", and he called the workers....
"Exempt".

And the Project Manager said, "Let there be a mission in the
midst of the Organization, and let it separate the workers,
one from another." And the Project Manager created the
mission and he called it...."The System". And the Project
Manager separated those who were to benefit from the System
from those who were to build it. And he called the former....
"Users", and he called the latter...."Programmers".

And the Project Manager said, "Let all the Programmers in
the Organization be gathered together into one place, and let
a Chief Programmer be brought up to lead them." And it was so.
And the Project Manager saw that he was competent.

And the Project Manager said unto the Chief Programmer,
"Create for me a schedule, so that I may look upon the
schedule, and know the "Due Date".

And the Chief Programmer went among his staff and consulted
with them. And the staff was divided into two parts, one
part was called...."Analysts", and the other part was
called...."Application Programmers". And the Analysts went
back to their desks and estimated, as was their custom. And
it came to pass that each Analyst brought his estimate to
the Chief Programmer, whereupon he collected them, summarized
them, and drew a PERT Chart.

And the Chief Programmer went unto the Project Manager and
presented him the estimate saying, "It shall take ten months."
And the Project Manager was not pleased and said, "I have
brought you up from the depths of the staff; you have not
grasped the 'Big Picture'." And the Project Manager hired
consultants, and authorized overtime, and he said to the
Chief Programmers, "Behold, see all that I have done! The
Due Date will be in five months." The Chief Programmer was
much impressed and went from before the Project Manager and
proceeded to implement The System.

And the Chief Programmer sent his Analysts to the Users and
said, "Let Specifications be written." And there were
meetings, and lunches, and telephone calls. And the
Specifications were written. And there was a Payday and the
Happy Hour, one month.

And the Chief Programmer examined the Specifications and saw
that they were too ambitious. And he separated the mandatory
features from the optional features; and he called the
mandatory features...."Requirements", and he called the
optional features...."Deferred", and the Users called him
names. And the Chief Programmer gave the Specifications to
the Analysts and said, "Let the Requirements be analyzed and
let the Files be designed." And it was so. And the Chief
Programmers said, "Let the Software Houses put forth their
Salesmen, and let us have a Data Management System." And
it was so. The Software Houses brought forth all manner of
Salesmen who presented their packages, and claimed wondrous
things for them, each according to his own file structure.
And it came to pass that a Data Management System was
selected; and the Chief Programmer saw that it was good.
And there was a Payday and the Happy Hour, a second month.

And the Chief Programmer said, "Let the System be divided
into parts, and let each part be called a 'Module'." And
let programming teams be formed and let each be assigned
to write a Module." And it was so. And the Chief Programmer
created the programming teams with two levels, a greater and
a lesser; and he called the greater the "Senior Programmers",
and he called the lesser the "Junior Programmers". And he
gave the greater dominion over the lesser. And the Chief
Programmer saw it was good. And the Junior Programmers saw
it differently. And there was a Payday and the Happy Hour,
a third month.

And the Chief Programmers said, "Let the programming be
started and let much overtime be consumed, for there is
but two months left." And the programmers, both the Senior
and the Junior, were much afraid, and they strove to please
the Chief Programmer. And they flowcharted, and they coded,
each in his own fashion. And the Chief Programmer looked
upon the work and liked it not. And the Chief Programmer
said, "Let there be a Standard"; and there was a Standard.
And the Programmers looked upon the Standard and liked it
not. And there was a Payday and the Happy Hour, a fourth
month.

And the Chief Programmer said, "Let there be Progress
Reports, so we can monitor and control"; and there were
Progress Reports. And the Chief Programmer looked upon the
Progress Reports and saw that the Due Date was not to be met.
And the Chief Programmer arose, pressed his suit, shaved his
beard, and went unto the Project Manager, and groveled. And
the Chief Programmer pointed his fingers, and caused Blame
to issue forth upon all manner of creatures who sold Hardware
and Software. And the Chief Programmer asked for an Extension.

And the Project Manager was exceedingly angry, and cast doubts
upon the Chief Programmers's ancestry; and uttered a multitude
of threats.  But it came to pass that an Extension was granted;
and the Chief Programmer took the Extension back to the
programming teams, and there was much rejoicing. And the
programming of the modules was completed. And there was a
Payday and the Happy Hour, a fifth month.

And the Chief Programmer said, "Let the Modules be integrated,
one with another, so that System Testing may begin." And it
was so. Two by two the Modules were integrated one with another.
And great difficulties were experienced, and many hours of
overtime were used, and many cups of coffee were consumed.
And it came to pass that System Testing was completed. And
there was a Payday and the Happy Hour, a sixth month.

Then the Chief Programmer did go to the Project Manager and
said unto him, "Behold, I bring you good tidings of great
joy which will come to all the Users; for on this day The
System is completed." And suddenly there was with them a
multitude of Users praising the Chief Programmer and saying,
"Glory be to The System in the highest, but can you make
this one small change?"

Dear SIG Members-

Here's an early notice about the next SPIN meeting. It's our annual 10
Minute Madness event.

Here's the info (as posted at http://nycspin.org)

Send your topics to:

tenminutemadness@...

*Remember to RSVP*
(separate email address)

Date: February 8, 2005

Time: 5:30PM - 7:30PM

Location: CitiGroup

- Please check and sign in at the security desk as you enter the
building and allow sufficient time since there may be additional
security checks.

RSVP:
To ensure that your name is on the security list at the door, RSVP by
close of business on Friday February 4, 2005 to Cheryl Owens at
JPMorganChase. In your response, please include your name, title,
company, email and telephone number. Cheryl Owens can be emailed at
Cheryl.Owens@... or reached by phone at 201-595-5860.

AGENDA

Our very own Richard Kuper will once again serve as moderator for this
year's 10 Minute Madness event.

This is an opportunity for people to brag, complain, or seek help. Our
Software Process Improvement Network operates to enhance the knowledge
and skills of each other, and this is our 'engage each other' event, as
opposed to our other events where we have dedicated speakers for the
whole session.

The rules are:

1. All subjects must be focused on the CMM/CMMI, some phase of Software
Process Improvement, or topics related to our Special Interest Groups.

2. Each Speaker or topic gets a maximum of ten minutes of floor time.

3. There will be a timer. When the ten minutes are up, we stop wherever
we are. If the bell rings in mid-sentence, we will stop there. Hallway
conversations during the meeting and after meeting groupings to finish
a subject are encouraged.

Priority for speaking:

1. People who have registered with Richard by noon Friday February 4th
at tenminutemadness@...

Be sure to include your name, phone number, company name and topic in
your email.

(Please note that this is NOT the RSVP address. Send your RSVP to
attend the meeting as instructed elsewhere in this notice).

2. General Floor speakers who sign up on the sign-up sheet as provided
in the order registered.

3. If no one is left to speak that signed up, we may go back to an
earlier speaker or topic or we may open the floor to anyone.

The goal is to have fun, learn a lot, and improve ourselves and our
knowledge.

You may wish to cut and paste the below into a new email to other folks
you know who use any Yahoo Groups. (Please do not hit "forward" which
will send my email address to the world).

===

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group
users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going
- similar to cookies.

Take a look at their updated privacy statement:
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy
About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies you will see a
link that says web beacons.

Click on the phrase web beacons.

Find the "click here to opt out" link that will let you "opt-out" of
their new method of snooping.

Once you have clicked that link, you are opted out.

Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page.

Be careful because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button
that, if clicked, will *undo** the opt-out.
Do NOT click the "Cancel Opt-out" button.

Dear Members-

SIGS require participation. In order for the SIG to have meetings, members need
to assist in recommending speakers/topics, and also need to assist in providing
meeting space in locations convenient to members.

As no one has come forward, there will not be a November meeting of the
Requirements Management SIG.

The RM SIG is the longest continuously active SIG in the NYC SPIN.
I hope that some of you will step up to the plate to help this SIG continue to
be a success.

Thank you.
Richard
