Hi Ray??
I looked at the possibilities of doing some NZR in HO a short time back. I
planned to use whatever I could find to make it as painless as possible. I found
plenty of brands of track available, so that issue was solved. I planned to use
bogies from Wuiske, CMD and others supplying for the HO12 market and wheels from
SEM. Loco mechanisms could be sourced from Hollywood Foundry with the
possibility of narrow gauging the AR 45 class bogies, some Athearn and some Kato
bogies. These have all proved to be useful to 3foot6 gauge modellers in the
past. I am not sure how successful narrowing a Frateschi loco will be; I didn't
consider them as the ones of interest are not HO scale. Bodywork was going to
have to be scratchbuilt out of styrene with some assistance from existing QR
kits and the Lima HO Mk2 BR carriages. I hadn't quite decided how I was going to
tackle the 4 wheel underframes when I decided a larger scale was more suited to
my eyesight these days. Good luck, apart from the trains themselves there is a
huge range of HO supplies that will make detailing the rest of the layout fairly
painless. I have had plenty of assistance from the New Zealand modelling
fraternity.
