Try smearing a bit of vaporub around the outside of the layout.
I've read about it (to keep cats out of homes) but I haven't tried it.

An Ultrasonic repeller. You can get ones with variable frequencies so that
they can be tuned specifically for different animals/insects/birds.
Jaycar electronics have them in stock.

Hi Mike,
I think I recall a story in Railway Modeller back in the 60's where the
owner had the problem with neighbours cats on an outdoor line.
The easy solution was to wait till the cat got comfortable then turn on
the power to the tracks, without locos.
I think he may have even upped the voltage a bit, I recall the expression
was...."we have lift off"......
cat soon got the message!
Better not tell the missus tho :-)

Mike i think if you look in the photos under Hot Static you may have one answer
or you could do what i have done and built a nice safe spot in the train room
for the cat to sleep . Didn't take long for it to stay in its area and we now
got along well

This seems the best place to me, Max. I did one for a friend.
I can't remember the size of the speaker, but I formed an enclosure by
partitioning off parts of the body. I used thin lead flashing but styrene
well sealed with RTV would do as well. You get the maximum enclosed air
space that way.

I am curious to know what others experiences with fitting sound to a Dj (1/64
scale) model. More specifically where was the speaker placed and how large could
you make it.
My best take so far is to locate it under the fan grille on the rear roof. This
will just allow a 19mm diameter speaker and about 14mm clearance to the gear
tower (North Yard chassis) Rather small for an effective speaker enclosure.

Or 9mm
may be a bit longer than 1800 but there would be no staging
have a rail construction scene cutting at one end dump\fill\embankment at the

with a steam shovel loading dump wagons a Dubs A and a single track with a run
around in the middle
push the wagon in to get loaded
pull them into the run around
run around them
push them out to the dump site
pull them back into the run around
run around them
push back in to be loaded
OK maybe not hours of running but..........make the steam shovel a working model
too and you could load the wagons

What... like Whareroa
staging would be the main line in each direction
back drop of the dairy factory
the whole yard will fit into 1800
check out the files area for the design
ignore the return loop and patea cross down the back
design is 3600x1000 folding down to 1800x1000 down the middle
idea is to have the dairy factory as a scene divider in low relief

I'm looking for something that will easily keep me shunting happily for half an
hour without getting bored.
The layout is no bigger than 1800mm long by 300mm wide excluding staging.
Look under mikes modelling in the files section to find them.

Hi All,
The Hamilton Model railway exhibition over Labour weekend was enjoyed by
young and old, but unfortunately when the 9mill boys were packing up on
Monday evening, I noticed that one of my KP wagons was missing, presumably
taken off the layout by persons unknown sometime over the weekend.
Wagon No: KP 27942
Colour: Red/brown Oxide body and headstocks with rest of underframe black.
Handbrake lever also red oxide.
I would request that if any member of the above groups know of the wagons
whereabouts or see it advertised for sale say on trade-me or e-bay, or
elsewhere etc., that they let me know through this medium.
Thanks,
Phil Rzoska
Depends on the library. The NZRLS can probably supply a back number, their
web address is http://www.railsoc.org.nz/
Or try Carter Books http://www.gtcarterbooks.co.nz/

Kevin,
NZ was/is not exactly flush with 2 ft gauge lines. I also model two foot
gauge. The prototypes I model are:
1. the Wellington City Council tunnelling tramways - see
http://carendt.us/microplans/pages/real/industrial/
2. the tramlines to service the dams and water pipes in the Waitakere Ranges
- see http://www.waitakeretramline.org.nz/ and
http://www.water.co.nz/watercare/recreation/rain-forest-express/rain-forest-
express_home.cfm
3. other existing NZ 60 cm gauge lines are:
Nile River Tramway http://www.caverafting.com/
4. Blenheim Riverside Railway http://www.trainweb.org/brrs/
5. a Coromandel mine

Hi,
I've been lurking here for some time, and now have a question. Can anyone
point me towards any information on the tramway operated by the Kauri
Freehold Gold Estates Co at Whangapoua? I haven't found any real
information, so I'm obviously looking in the wrong place. I would also be
interested in any other 2' 0" gauge lines, as that's the gauge I currently
model.
regards
Kevin

point me towards any information on the tramway operated by the Kauri Freehold
Gold Estates Co at Whangapoua? I haven't found any real information, so I'm
obviously looking in the wrong place. I would also be interested in any other
2' 0" gauge lines, as that's the gauge I currently model.

There is a local history book on the area which may contain information, but I
haven't read it so I can't comment on what material the book contains. the book
is called "Whangapoua: Harbour of the Shellfish" by Graeme Lay, is published by
the Whangapoua History Project Group (256pp, $70).
There is comprehensive covarage of the Puponga collieries lines in Peter Dyers
book "Coal mines of Puponga and some extra material in a sister book called
"Ferntown to Fairwell Spit" by Carol Dawber published by the river press.
There is also quite good coverage of the Egmont collieries tramway in the NZ
Railway Observer issues 238 and 239.

Hi,
I've been lurking here for some time, and now have a question. Can anyone point
me towards any information on the tramway operated by the Kauri Freehold Gold
Estates Co at Whangapoua? I haven't found any real information, so I'm
obviously looking in the wrong place. I would also be interested in any other
2' 0" gauge lines, as that's the gauge I currently model.

Kevin

As part of building a small shelf layout, I'm looking for photos, plans,
dimensions or any other details of the Marton and Taihape loco sheds in the
1980's.
Need the dimensions to see how the sheds would fit on my shelf.
Cheers
Mike
