Hi,
Thanks to Prof. Trevidi for last months talk. It was interesting to see all the advancements in image processing and image recognition.
The San Diego Science Fair is coming up soon. Please contact Kelly Cummings (kellycummings@...). He is looking for volunteers to judge projects and hand out awards. This is a great way to encourage science and engineering in our community. These are the students that will energize the economy in this area. Please consider giving your support.
Another way to get involved in science education is through the San Diego Science Alliance (www.sdsa.org). They sponsor talks in San Diego aimed at primary and secondary education students and teachers. You can volunteer to give a talk or support by encouraging your local science teachers to attend the many free training events they sponsor for teachers.
From time to time, I am approached by recruiters wishing to present their offerings to our membership. I don't have the time to create a job board for San Diego. If there is a member interested in this activity, they can contact me and they can be a focal point for optics jobs in San Diego.
I'm sure many of you have heard talks on MEMS technology. The OSSD has hosted a few talks on the subject (e.g. Micralyne and UCI's Nanofabrication Facility). This month we have two speakers - one from a MEMS design company and one from the fabrication services at CalIT2 at UCSD. My goal for this talk is:
Utlizing Design Expertise and Fabrication Facilities in San Diego to realize products using MEMS Technology.
I hope to see you there!
Brian
