OSSD Meeting - February 8, 2007   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #3 of 24 < Prev |

Hi,

In an effort to make sending invitations, adding new members, and opting out easier,
I have set up a Yahoo! Group for the OSSD.  The only way to continue to receive
announcements will be to join the group by following the link and accepting the invitation.

I will be phasing out my method of sending e-mail through my Caltech account
by the next meeting.

Brian

Meeting announcement
=====================

Hi,

Welcome back from the winter break.  We took the month of January off for
Photonics West.  Many thanks to Luxtera for hosting our last meeting.

I will be changing the method that announcements are sent out.  I have been
sending e-mail from my own account.  With spam filtering, limits on messages
from ISP's, and limitations in the server I use, it has become increasingly
difficult to send out announcements.

I have created a Group on Yahoo! Groups called:  "opticalsocietyofsandiego".
Your e-mail address will not be shared with anyone other than the moderator
of the group (me).  New members can join by accessing the website and
submitting their e-mail address.  I will be sending you an invitation so you can join
by merely following the link in the message.  Please respond by joining and
you'll be added to the e-mail list for announcements.  I welcome any feedback.

This month we will have our meeting at General Atomics.  Space is limited,
so please make an effort to RSVP.  I hope to see you there.

Brian

MEETING NOTICE-OPTICAL SOCIETY OF SAN DIEGO

"Photonics at General Atomics" by Dr. Michael Perry and Dr. Ian Barton

Thursday, February 8, General Atomics, Buffet 6:00-6:30, Talk 6:30 - 8:00

Abstract

The speakers will be Dr. Michael Perry, the division Vice President, and Dr. Ian Barton,
who is a senior optical scientist in the division. Dr. Perry will give an introduction to
Photonics division programs, including a more detailed technical presentation on
directed energy laser activities and novel laser imaging systems developed by the division.
Dr. Barton's talk will concern the design and fabrication of high damage threshold
diffraction gratings for chirped-pulse amplification laser systems.

General Atomics was founded in 1955 in San Diego, California for the purpose of harnessing
the power of nuclear technologies for the benefit of mankind. General Atomics' basic
research into fission and fusion has matured into competence in many technologies, making
General Atomics and its affiliated companies one of the world's leading resources for
high-technology systems development. The Photonics and Electro-Optics Division was
established in 2000 with the intent of driving new and developing photonics technology
into advanced commercial laser systems, government and custom laser systems, and RF
communication. The Photonics and Electro-Optics Division is a major developer of
high power laser weapon technology and other laser applications ranging from
advanced imaging and targeting systems to precision machining.
