The releases for Finale 2010 have been rather sparse, but here is the
first one. It restores compatibility with the new Measure Number Regions
in Finale 2010. However, the plugin is still running in "backward
compatibility" mode, and principally that means the plugins work as
before with regions that are compatibile with the old settings.
If you use the new settings, here are some additional facts about how
this release works:
1. It sees part settings if you run the plugin in part view. Score
settings in score view.
2. It is safe to use Measure Numbers to delete regions, even if the
regions use the new features.
There is one bug fix that applies to users of any version of Finale. The
Measure Numbers delete function no longer deletes the last region when
you specify the last-but-one region as the upper bound.

You will probably want these if you use Windows Vista. The old
registration scheme was not completely compatible with Vista. Some users
reported having to re-enter their registration codes over and over. I
believe these new versions address that problem.
If you use either XP or Vista, this new version may require you to
re-enter your registration code once. After that, it should not ask you
again. If you run an older version of Windows than XP, you should see no
change. As always, keep me posted of issues.

The
minimum version that works with WinFin2009 is 3.08. I can't explain
why the lite version that comes with Finale was not updated. My
understanding was that it would be. (FWIW: my copy of Fin09 also
apparently shipped with 3.05.) You'll have to ask MM about that.
You can download the full verison 3.09 from my website, and it should
work with WinFin09.

I don’t see any .fxt files. (Maybe
that’s my problem?)
This happens even with the lite plug-ins
that come with Finale. The Beam over Barlines plug-in, for example is version
3.05.

That
sounds like you are trying to use the 08 version of the plugins

None of the Patterson plug-ins are working for me in Finale 2009. This
applies to the lite version that comes with the application and the
full version.
When I select a plug-in the screen flashes and the DB appears briefly
and then disappears. Often Finale will quit right after this.
Other plug-ins (including TGT) are working as expected.
I am using XP Pro SP3, 1 Gig of RAM.
Is there anything I can do (other than go back to Finale 2008)?

Hello, David.
I've been away awhile, with limited email access. Were you able to solve
your problem by mirroring the same values in System Start and
Multimeasure Rest settings?

2nd attempt to post. Please forgive if this is a duplicate.
Sorry, I may have been wrong about this. It looks like "Start System
Numbers" takes precedence over "Multimeasure Rest Numbers." So to
accomplish what I intend, I must mirror "Mid-System Numbers" values
in "Multimeasure Rest Numbers." To ease confusion, I might rename the
latter "Mid-System Multimeasure Rest Numbers."

Sorry, I may have been mistaken. Am I correct in understanding that
the "System Start Numbers" positioning takes precedence over
the "Multimeasure Rest Numbers"?
To achieve the effect I want, I think I have to mirror the "Mid-System
Numbers" offsets in the "Multimeasure Rest Numbers" fields. And the
latter might more unambiguously be called "Mid-System Multimeasure Rest
Numbers."

I need to treat a multimeasure rest's measure number exactly the same
as a regular measure's number. This doesn't appear to be possible in
one pass. The point is: if a multimeasure rest comes at the
beginning of the system, then you'd want the "Start System Numbers"
positioning and if it comes in the middle you'd want "Mid-System
Numbers" positioning. Currently you have to use "Multimeasure Rest
Numbers," which can't cover both. Is this how the plug-in is
intended to work when "Center Ranges Under Multimeasure Rests" is
unchecked?

I'm not where I can see the options right now. Is there a reason you
can't set the MM rest number offsets to be what you want them to be?

Thank you, Robert, especially for the fast turnaround. (And sincere
apologies for the double post due to browser glitch.)
May I ask further... the plug-in still doesn't completely do what I was
expecting on multimeasure rests, though perhaps the problem is with my
expectations.
With "Center Ranges Under Multimeasure Rests" unchecked, I was
expecting that the unboxed measure numbers at the beginning of
multimeasure rests would be placed either at the offsets for "Mid-
System Numbers" or "System Start Numbers" depending on where the
multimeasure rest occurs in a system. Instead it's still using
the "Multimeasure Rest Numbers" offsets. So I'm still having to
manually adjust about half of them.
So is that the way it's intended to work? Or is there still a bug?

Thank you for the reply, Robert.
I did discover this "doubling" behavior. But unfortunately the
expression boxes appear much larger than the measure number boxes. The
enclosure settings for both appear to be exactly the same, but the
expression's ones are much too big. I'm not sure if this is the
plugin's doing or my own. Running the plugin before creating
multimeasure rests appears my only solution right now.
I also discovered that if I click on one of the other tabs and close
the plugin, then reopened it, that new tab will be the one displayed.
So the underneath tabs are not completely inaccesable.
Hi Robert,
Complete set of measure numbers is:
- measure numbers at beginning of each system (required to invoke
Copyists Helper -- I want Copyists Helper to ignore these numbers)
PLUS
- measure number range on MM rests (I want Copyists Helper to
reposition these numbers).
Cheers,
- Darcy

Please explain this request further. It seems like a technical solution
to a requirement that I don't really understand. What is the complete
set of measure numbers you want to have appear? Surely not just the
ranges under multimeasure rests and *nothing* else.

I've also noted this discrepancy in Finale. That's one of the reasons I
added "Use Expressions for All Enclosed Numbers". With that option you
can set the enclosure options in the measure number region to look good
for expressions, because no meas number for that region will actually
have an enclosure.

This does indeed appear to be a bug, and I don't have a great
workaround. You will get your box if you check "Use Expressions for All
Enclosed Numbers", but it will also leave the measure number, leaving
you with 2 measure numbers. Still, if deleting is easier than adding
this might be better than nothing.

This is not relevant to your other problem, but I was able to identify
this problem in the code, and it will be fixed in the next relase. I'll
get these out as soon as I can, but it may be a couple of weeks due to
my travel schedule.
Thanks for the reports.

Is the following possible: I'd like to use Copyist's Helper to do
everything it does to measure numbers *except* put ranges under
multimeasure rests. So I'm running it with "Center Ranges..."
unchecked. The problem is it seems to be treating boxed measure
numbers at the start of a multimeasure rest the same as unboxed
numbers. I'm only getting about half of the boxes I'm supposed to get.
Is this a bug? Is there a workaround short of breaking all my
multimeasure rests and rebuilding them afterward? Or am I using it
incorrectly?
If this is relevant I'm not even able to see the remaining two tabs of
Copyist's Helper. When I click on them, I still see the measure number
parameters. (But measure number tweaking is the only thing I'm
interested in right now.)
I've downloaded version 2.09 and I'm running Finale 2008a on Windows
XP. And any answers in the greatest of expedience would be *very much
appreciated.* Thank you.
I'm pleased to announce an update is available that works with Finale
2009. It is a free update for users of Patterson Plug-Ins v3 and Copyist
Helper v2.

easier on the user if the downloads were dated.

I posted the answer to this somewhere recently. Either on this list or
the Finale list.
Really quite serendipitously for linked parts, these options happen to
cause every number to be a "forced" number. (The original purpose had
nothing to do with linked parts.) That means they only appear on the
staff or staves you select. Otherwise they would appear on every staff
(assuming you turned on meas nums in the staff attributes) and in every
part (if you use the Top Staff option).
