No doubt. CSR is none other than ethical business or honest business. I am not arguing in favour of Mr Ramalinga Raju of Satyam. Criminal is a criminal, but he is a criminal with difference. He admitted his criminal deeds without blaming anybody. To ward off arrest and trial in America through class action, he confessed his mistakes, stayed homeland to be arrested in his own country and own state. You can refer to my writing written in that context.

 

You might have read or heard about Bhakta Ramadas, a Tahasildar of Bhadrachalam under the rule of Nizams.  He built a temple for Lord Rama on the banks of River Gautami and made rich jewlery for dieties from out of the revenues collected, instead of depositing into Nizam's treasury. He was charged with criminal embezzlement of public money and was imprisoned. He was brought out of the prison because he did something for the society in his own way. 

 

The legendary Ravana, and the recent infamous forest brigand Veerappan too have followers and fanfare, because they maintained some kind of relations with the people and exhibited responsibility towards the society around them.
