Pricing, what are some common charges and how do you integrate
them into your pricing schedule to clients?
I'm new at this endeavor and am searching for advice on
price structuring. I've started out with a minimum service
offering, though that inevitably leads to additional time
and effort and additional services and revenue
opportunities. My initial offering is copywriting, editing,
proofreading and press release. I'm charging a flat fee for
the releases, though some efforts require much more research
and also consequently lead to other revenue opportunities,
though I don't know how to structure pricing for them.
Such things include, prospect list development for direct
sales. While I know of list originators that I may broker
for, I also may have other sources from research which will
garner valuable information not available through list
supplying houses. These I would need to develop partly
manually, partly with some automation, some of which are
still relatively quite manual.
Sometimes Risk Managers are a necessary target market. The
Risk Managers association has a very tightly guarded list.
What list sources and media venues are available for getting
the word out to Risk Managers, please?
Are there any key information portals for industry specific
associations, newsletters, publications, editors, writers
that you use for developing a target list, especially to
specific industries?
Strategy development is another inevitable realm that seems
unavoidably integrated in developing a press release, often
conveying richly valuable advice that comes rather easily
for me/us, though is a knot popper for the customer/client.
How do you charge for this, flat fee, hourly, daily, etc?
What rates are common?
It seems natural that a startup fee for a 'get to know'
period would be appropriate, though it seems to be an easier
sell for someone new to the business such as myself to offer
a press release for a flat rate to get in the door,
especially when the client is too far away to visit. How
can I go about adding the logisticals and strategizing as a
separate fee, if at all? This often seems to be as much or
more consuming to do than to actually develop a persuasive
press release.
What pricing points should I be aware of, what should I
include as a standard minimum involvement initiated by a
press release request? Any pricing samples you could share,
an insider's look, perhaps not usually shared with
clients?
Your information and deep insights are appreciated for this
fledgling PR professional.
