Chatting to a wagon inspector yesterday. He had
recently inspected the wagons stored at Byee on the
Proston Branch. One of his more interesting
inspections due to the fact the area is quite
overgrown, although a local crew was to start cutting
the grass and landholders had attached fences to the
stored wagons. The tippler wagons will head north as
needed to replace wagons used on Isa line as the old
ones are condemned and bottom dumps wagons are to be
used in SE Queensland coal use. They may even be
railed out of their current site. No time frame was
given.
GN nickel wagons in Tsv are nearing the end of their
life, and despite their rugged construction, some
weigh almost 2 tonnes lighter than when first
constructed due to wear. A inner poly coating may
prolong their life however this will depend on the
lifespan of the coating.
