Hi,

I saw this posting on another site and wondered if anyone had any
ideas to share about this.

I got a call from a piano technician who is looking for ideas to adapt
foot pedals for the piano for a woman who does not have use of her
legs. Any ideas that we can pass along.

Thanks

Hi There,

My name is Luke Bayes, and I am trying to spread the word about
some recent changes to Medicaid payments in Florida. Apparently,
Florida legislators have unilaterally altered their system for
Medicaid compensation to include ONLY 'standard' wheelchair
components. This change has indefinitely disrupted critical
services for countless Children as well as adults with severe
disabilities that require custom components or services.

PLEASE take a look at the following link to find out more, and
help spread the word if you can:

Thanks,

Luke Bayes

You might want to look at Microsoft.com. They use to have an area on assistive
tech and I think they may have offererd training. I am nit sure if it is still
on the web site.

To All Fellow Recreation Specialist:

I am stump. I am in a building with 3 different levels of MR. I am having
trouble thinking of activites/programs to do with my lower funcitioning.
Activites that I have done are mainly one on one (ie. training to ride a
bike.) I do not want to neglect them because the other 2 units in the
building are much higher functioning.

Does anyone have any ideas of group activities for my residents? Or any
other individual activities?

Thank you.

SeniorNet www.seniornet.org is a web site devoted to providing education,
access, and leisure options to older adults via the computer. An example of
a leisure option is a chat book club.

Another web site related to older adults and leisure is

Just wondering what resources and/or activities people are involved in with
older adults in terms of technology, particularly computer use for leisure
and recreation, and assistive technology? Beyond SeniorNet, are there other
good web sites out there? Thanks for your assistance. -- jo

If you want software, I like to look at the
offers.freecdrom.com webpage. They have software,
often typing tutorial software for free, Shipping and
Handling $7.50. They have something different to
offer each time I visit the site. I recently ordered
two of the typing tutorials. The advanced on I did
not like, the beginning for children typing tutorial I
did like.
I like to make sure they are compatable with my kind
of Windows before I order.

also try http://www.unc.edu/depts/recreate/spot/
or otherwise The Brain spot. This particular part of
the very good website for TBI teaches how to use the
mouse, intro use of Internet, and fun games to
practice with the mouse as well as memory. I love
this website.

Thirdly, try http://www.beginners.co.uk/
This is a website with online learning and tutorials,
some for an annual fee and some for free.

Good Luck

G'Day

I am delighted to announce to colleagues, students and friends that I
am going to get the chance to work with two "awesome" TR professionals.
The opportunity to help introduce Therapeutic Recreation to New Zealand
next to Dr. Gerald O'Morrow and Dr. Kathy Halberg is a dream come true.

Dr. O'Morrow helped lay the groundwork for the TR field in the USA and
is excited about the opportunity to share his knowledge with the Kiwis.
His experience in the field and at the academy is extensive and highly
regarded. Dr O'Morrow is the author of texts, articles and manuscripts.
He has served in a vast array of leadership positions in the profession
at local, national and international levels.

Dr Halberg is a fellow graduate of the University of Illinois. Dr.
Halberg was leaving Illinois as I arrived to do my graduate work. In
fact, we met in passing on the steps of Huff Gymnasium . Little did we
know that our paths would cross 25 years later in New Zealand. Dr.
Halberg has been teaching TR on the west coast of the USA every since
that meeting in Champaign, Illinois. Like Dr. O'Morrow, Dr Halberg is
well published and active professionally.

Drs. O'Morrow and Halberg have much to offer the students at the
Southern Instate of Technology, the growth of the Therapeutic
Recreation profession in New Zealand and my own professional
development. .

Drs. O'Morrow and Halberg will be arriving in Invercargill early in
2002. To my Kiwi friends, plan on a BBQ late in January to welcome
Gerry and Kathy. To those of you not fortunate enough to spend the
summer in New Zealand, we'll miss you and hope you have the opportunity
to visit us at the Southern Instate of Technology

I came accross this sight through some of my readings.
http://www.unc.edu/depts/recreate/spot/frame.html

It is a long address, but I think this could help you.
It has very simple ways to learn about using the mouse
and navigating a website and also the internet.

I am also working on developing a similar website for my
internship.

Betsy: Is this Class that you teach, one that you think would be of interest
to the attendees of our Information Technology School that is conducted each
year for Rec & Park Personnel? We are presently in the process of developing
the curriculum. Is there an outline I can share with our Board of regents?

realizing this isn't the direct answer to your question, a touch window is
available for $335. it's not the entire monitor, but it works as such. just
ignore this email if this doesn't suit your needs, but if you're ok w/the
attachment i saw one via
http://www.riverdeep.net/commerce/catalog/Product.jhtml?PRODID=15363&CATID=10067

best wishes.

difficulties with working with a mouse, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of
affordable (under $1,000.00) touch screen monitors.
