SYNOPSIS OF REPUBLIK PETRUK
REPUBLIK PETRUK, is TEATER KOMA’s 116th production. This play is the Third Part of the REPUBLIC SAGA Trilogy. The First Part; REPUBLIK BAGONG, was performed as the 95th production at Graha Bakti Budaya Taman Ismail Marzuki, from April to Mei 2001. The Second Part; REPUBLIK TOGOG, was held as the 103rd production, at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Arts Building), from July to August and December 2004.
The story begins when Mustakaweni steals Jimat Kalimasada, Pandawa’s enchanted treasure, by disguising herself as Gatotkaca. Srikandi, the renowned lady-warrior, fails to recover the Kalimasada. Next, a young knight named Priambada comes along. He is looking for his father, Arjuna. Srikandi is willing to help under the condition: the young knight must reclaim the Jimat Kalimasada. Priambada accepts. What follows is an exciting and pleasant battle. It turns out that Mustakaweni has fallen for the knight and allows Priambada to gain possession of Jimat Kalimasada, even though still pretending to fight. To fully fight her, Priambada hands over Jimat Kalimasada to Petruk.
Then, two gods show up; Kaladurgi and Kanekaratena, they provoke Petruk to take advantage of the magical properties within Jimat Kalimasada. “You have to make the most of anything that’s been given to you, power is within your grasp, opportunity will not come twice.” Finally Petruk is persuaded. Due to the power of Jimat Kalimasada, Petruk succeeds in conquering the Kingdom of Lojitengara. He is then crowned as King with the title of Prabu Petruk Belgeduwelbeh Tongtongsot.
So, a political reformation takes place. Anything is allowed. Corruption, as long as it is carried out in the dark, is okay. Loudly Petruk proclaims; “The democracy I am reforming is; Serba Boleh Ye (Anything Goes)..”
Lojitengara prospers, officials are afraid to commit corruption. The policemen are well mannered, dedicated. KKN (Corruption Collusion Nepotism) and other misconducts, in the name of democracy, thrive but are still under control. Prabu Belgeduwelbeh is not worried. On the contrary, he eats more, dances more and sings more. Other kings who feel annoyed and invade Lojitengara are defeated. But Petruk Belgeduwelbeh does not enslave them, instead they are turned into sworn brothers and are then recruited as allies.
Who else is able to replace Petruk Belgeduwelbeh? Because, it seems, the condition of ‘Serba Boleh Ye’, is still taking place.
