PATCA Consultants Mtg - Offshore contract engineering panel discussion

DATE/TIME: Thu, Jul 12, 6:00pm-9:00pm

LOCATION: Embassy Suites Hotel-Santa Clara, 2885 Lakeside Drive, Santa
Clara

COST: $30-members; $35-non-members; $27-guests.

PATCA's July 12 meeting features a panel of technology experts sharing
their experiences, perceptions, and Silicon Valley insights on "Offshore
Contract Engineering: Is the luster and glamour wearing off for Corporate
Management in America?"

"Offshore engineering" has become a common trend among many American
companies. There were open discussions among technical consultants at
PATCA and throughout Silicon Valley that careers for engineering
consultants could be "dying" or they might need to return to working as
full-time employees of former clients in the not-too-distant future. What
are the current perceptions in Silicon Valley about Offshore Engineering?
Where are we headed next?

thumbarger
Online Now Online Now
Send Email Send Email

I am the community manager for a new (and free) member-driven community called Catalzye (www.mycatalyze. org), and I would like to invite the product managers and marketers in this group to check it out.  Catalyze is meant to augment and complement the  Software Product Marketing Groups site.

Catalyze is a member-driven community for all professionals involved in defining business systems, designing software applications and creating websites.  If you are a product manager, product marketer, business analyst, usability professional, UI designer, information architect, interaction designer, project manager or anyone else involved in the definition process of software applications, this community is for you and will be worth your time.

Professionals approach application definition from many different angles and this community will "catalyze" or gather strength from all points of view to heighten the importance of this space. The challenges, issues and topics are similar across all of these professional functions, and Catalyze is the first community to bridge these diverse disciplines.

Catalyze is a place to share, learn, find resources, offer opinions, get involved and make connections.  The future direction of Catalyze will be driven by a group of community leaders who are experts in their fields and are committed to making Catalyze "the top destination" site for application definition and design professionals.  Catalyze is also presented in association with the International Institute of Business Analysts (IIBA) and with the Usability Professionals Association (UPA).

There is no cost to join the Catalyze community – and all members will be able to contribute content to the community via blogs, discussion forums, resource library and event calendar. Members can create extensive profiles and will be able to search and network with others who with similar interests. Catalyze also uses the latest in Web 2.0 technologies to enable the community experience.

Thanks!

Forum Members:

First, I wish to thank all those members that responded to the previous research invitations by completing the Product Innovation survey. Your support of this research effort is greatly appreciated. That survey is now closed and there will be no additional postings regarding this project except for compiled results. However, the availability of these results will be slightly delayed as the needed number of respondents was not quite achieved. To achieve this goal, the survey has been repurposed for use with an expanded audience. Once the data collection from this larger group is complete, the combined results will be posted to this forum.

Access instructions for the repurposed survey along with additional information can found at http://survey.innovationoxygen.net/index.php?sid=4 . (click if active or cut and paste the link into your browser). Additional answer options have been added to some questions to prevent lack of detailed knowledge from inhibiting survey completion. The survey still requires approximately 20 minutes to complete, and all responses are completely anonymous. Targeted respondents are those individuals involved in the creation and marketing of computer and / or information technology based product and services (i.e. software, business IT products, consumer electronics) destined for (but not limited to) U.S. market consumption.

Please complete the survey if you have not already done so and also forward this invite to any and all other qualified individuals you may know. The desired quality of results requires a large number of responses which is proving to be challenging to achieve. Therefore each and every participant is highly valued and your support in reaching qualified individuals will be greatly appreciated.

The survey will remain open at the above link for only a short period of time. The summary of responses from this survey will be combined with the previous responses and posted to the participating forums as well as on www.innovationoxygen.net . The detailed analysis and interpretation of the results will be published later this summer as part of the dissertation which will be publicly available through most university libraries.

If there are any questions or comments about the study, reach me by e-mail at the address below.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated,

DATE/TIME: Wed, Jun 20, 6:00pm-9:00pm

The prospect of "green" data centers has moved center stage. It has come
about as these core computing centers have expanded significantly to meet
the increased enterprise demands of new services. The typical data center
energy cost is anticipated to rise from $800K to nearly $5M over the next
few years. Beyond internal cost pressures, state and federal regulatory
requirements and community concerns about global warming are forcing data
centers to conserve power by moving to green tech.

New pressures bring new opportunities for technology and business model
innovation. This is especially true in case of the looming IT power
crisis.
