I saw it after I had posted my response.

Friends of mine own a machine shop, so I've considered trying to make a proper
socket. Would not be impossible to mill threads inside a an aluminum shell, or
wind some solid copper wire around the base to form the threads then solder that
inside a copper shell. Pretty low on my priorities though.
