Bandera County called best ride in Texas by moto magazine
By James Taylor - Associate Editor-in-Chief
Bandera County received a chorus of accolades in the March 2005
edition of Ride Texas magazine, being named multiple times in the
magazine's Best in Texas Top 10 lists, including recognition as the
best ride in the State of Texas.
"All roads lead somewhere, but some roads make your journey more
pleasurable," read the introduction of the article Top 10 Roads in the
Best of Texas special section of the magazine. Bandera County's FM 337
between Medina and Camp Wood was named the number one road to ride for
motorcyclists, comprising over 56 miles of touring goodness according
to the magazine. The road has been on the Top 10 list for four years.
Hwy. 16 between Antelope and Zapata, including the strip through
Bandera County and the City of Bandera, was named the third best road
to ride.
Other Bandera County joints and jaunts featured in this year's Top 10
lists include Bandera's River Front Motel, ranked the fourth best
lodging in the state; Lost Maples State Natural Area in Vanderpool,
ranked the third best park; and Old Spanish Trail (OST) in Bandera,
ranked the sixth best road food in Texas.
FM 337 was also mentioned in an article about ride planning, in
reference to the tragedy that occured on the road last year when a
motorcyclist was killed in an accident outside of Leakey and left
unfound for days. The article suggested having a trip itinerary, cell
phone, emergency contact info, and to use the buddy system, as well as
to ride "sober and smart."
