We've had a spate of spamming attempts lately.

Thus I've instituted manual approval to join the list instead of it
just being open.

The system automatically joins a user to the list when they create an
account on syndic8. We get e-mail notifications of these. We also
get e-mail notices when those accounts actually subscribe.

What comes as a surprise is how many requests to join the list are
coming a) without an s8 account being created and b) without any
resemblence of a sensible subscriber request. It's clear the spammers
are running automated scripts just signing up to lists without human
intervention.

Hopefully this will cut down a bit on the spammers trying to harvest
addresses from our list.

Anyway, regular subscribers should really see no difference.
