Hi, Bill
Those pesky spammers get everywhere. I recently accepted a new member into my
Yahoo art group and 5 adverts for something-or-other were promptly posted as
messages to the group! I've deleted "her".

We've had a spate of spamming attempts lately.
Thus I've instituted manual approval to join the list instead of it
just being open.
The system automatically joins a user to the list when they create an
account on syndic8. We get e-mail notifications of these. We also
get e-mail notices when those accounts actually subscribe.
What comes as a surprise is how many requests to join the list are
coming a) without an s8 account being created and b) without any
resemblence of a sensible subscriber request. It's clear the spammers
are running automated scripts just signing up to lists without human
intervention.
Hopefully this will cut down a bit on the spammers trying to harvest
addresses from our list.
Anyway, regular subscribers should really see no difference.
Thank you,

I'm curious how many of those were approved by the submitter. I don't
approve my own, but I know some people do, which (IMHO) defeats the
purpose of having a human reviewing system. That would help explain a
last-in, first-out result. I have several old suggested feeds, some
of which I've killed off while still in the approval queue because I
knew they were dead (e.g., they were mine and I knew they were
permanently gone). Feed 541948 is probably the oldest
awaiting-approval of mine that I actually "care" about, going back to
the beginning of 2008; feed 473521 goes back to mid-2006.

A spot check of the latest 200 approvals shows many that are about a
month and few more than several months old. Actually, there were none
older than June of 2008 among those I picked randomly although Mark's
feed, which I checked intentionally, obviously was. It almost appears
as if a last-in-first-out policy is in operation. My own feed,
523819, has been "Awaiting Approval" since mid-2007.

Years... or a few days. It's not consistent, there's a huge backlog,
and it's a manual (and volunteer) process with varying participation
by reviewers. Anyway, I didn't see anything too terribly wrong with
yours so I went ahead and approved it. You might take a look at what
Feedvalidator.org says about it, in case you can fix the things it
comments on. (They may not be within your control, however.) Just
click the "VALIDATE FEED" button on the left when you're looking at
your feed on Syndic8.com.
Just for comparison, I just reviewed a feed that's been in the queue
since 2004... And there are over 300,000 feeds needing attention,
although many of them could probably be culled out automatically if
they have a pattern of 404's, since many are long gone.

How long does it take to get approved?

I just created my first BLOGÂ and I'm trying to create traffic for it. I created
it to encourage fair debate between Christians and non-Christians, so it's a
personal BLOG.
I also created a web page for the first time in years and would like to
create traffic for it as well. I know quite a bit more about that process than
I do about the BLOG process.
I just spent all weekend immersing myself in the BLOG world. I'm new to RSS and
Atom feeds though I'm an experienced PC and Internet user.
I'm open to all mentoring.Â

There are a lot of tools and methods available, but it depends to a
large extent on what you're using for your site. Are you using blog
or content-management software? If so, it may have these features
built in. Anyway, your questions are too general to offer a
meaningful answer, but a Web search engine will probably provide you
with relevant info if you search on "RSS" and whatever technology
you're using for your site.
You "probably" won't need to pay for anything. At least the tools
should be free; you might want to pay for the integration services of
a Web developer who is familiar with the tools and site environment.

Feed 236292 has been updated accordingly. When 563219 gets to the
Awaiting Approval stage (right now it's in "Polling"), you can ask for
it to be reviewed for the move to Syndicated status like the older
feed. It should shift into "Awaiting Approval" automatically as long
as the Polling phase completes successfully.
Thanks,

In a nutshell, add your RSS feed to the Syndic8.com database by using
the Suggest feature, then check out the many resources in the

Hello,
One thing you can do with your RSS feed is add it to your
MyYahoo.com rss reader and yahoo will index it and the information
within 24 hours you can go to msn and google and do the same thing
there with the same results.
I also use software to use rss feeds to update the content on my sites
so the search engines see new content daily and return and index my
sites more often.
I offer the software on my site at http://TrafficTipsandTricks.com
Check out the links in the left hand menu also for more Tips and Tricks.
For assistance..

Yep. The way I do it, you have to be good with Yahoo Pipes.
Publishing a feed to a blog is easier than you might think!
I've always put in my own content but want to automate part of the
process by merging other specific feeds into my blog at
http://feeds.feedburner.com/Calgary-mike-news. Does anyone know how
to do that?
The feed URL is the address of the XML data (RSS or Atom). The site
URL is the address of the HTML content. For example:
http://www.example.com/ would be a site URL.
http://www.example.com/newsfeed.rss would be a feed URL.
In your case:
http://mplsexpression.typepad.com/ is the site URL
http://www.minneapolisexpression.com/ is apparently an alternative
site URL, which redirects to the above address
http://mplsexpression.typepad.com/weblog/atom.xml is the feed URL
"Syndicated" within the scope of Syndic8.com means a feed has been
checked by a human reviewer to determine that it meets a high level of
technical correctness -- that is, it's been determined to be a feed
that should work with properly-functioning feed readers or other
feed-reading technologies. In your case, the feed would not pass that
test in its current state, because it fails validation with the
following error: XML parsing error: <unknown>:25:42: unbound prefix
When I first looked, feed ID 559637 was assigned to your site (not
your feed), in the "desiring syndication" state. The general meaning
of this is that somebody (in this case you) identified the site as one
that does not have an XML feed but would be a good site to have one.
I have updated the record to include the feed address and set it to
Polling. What this will do is have Syndic8.com poll your feed, which
is the first step toward eventually having a human reviewer check the
feed for technical correctness. If polling succeeds at a very basic
technical level, then the feed will go into "awaiting approval"
status, which is where it waits in a (very large and
randomly-accessed) on-hold queue for a volunteer human reviewer.
My recommendation to you would be to check your feed address here:
http://www.feedvalidator.org/
This is a great tool for fixing broken feeds. If it's not fixed
before a human reviewer checks it, it will be marked as needing
repair. No sense going that route if you can fix it first (besides,
publishing a dysfunctional feed is arguably pointless).
Hope this helps,

Considering that the question was about and existing feed and
Syndic8.com, and considering your page doesn't mention Syndic8.com at
all, I'm not sure how it "explains the whole process exactly." In
fact, it doesn't answer the question at all.
Regarding the original question: If you want to register your feed
with Syndic8.com to build feed visibility, so to speak, you just need
to suggest it using the Suggest form here:
http://www.syndic8.com/suggest_start.php
Since you apparently already have a functional RSS or Atom feed,
choose the top link: "I want to enter URLs to syndicated content."
You can then provide the URL of the RSS or Atom feed, and that will
start the process of registering your feed in the Syndic8.com
database.

Hey Syndic8 world,
I've recommended my own site URL. Question: what's the difference between feed
URL and site URL? I already have setup subscription and RSS links on my site,
so is it already syndicated? Is that what 'syndicate' means? If so, how do I
know what the 'feed URL' is?
Thanks in advance for anyone's help; this 'feed' stuff has been confusing me for
