The TH&B Historical Society was founded in 1997 with the intention of preserving the history of the TH&B Railway and the TH&B Navigation Company. One of the principal reasons why this railway appeals to so many individuals was the variety and diversification of its operations.

The TH&B was a railway that:

-pooled locomotives with its parent roads between Toronto and Buffalo.

-participated in joint international freight and passenger operations.

-routinely operated solid unit trains of sulphuric acid, phosphate rock and other commodities.

-owned the only 2-8-4 Berkshire Steam Locomotives in Canada.

-owned the first completed GP-7 Diesel Locomotive manufactured by General Motors Diesel Division.

-operated picturesque branch lines through some of the most beautiful scenery in Ontario.

-offered multiple unit consists assisted by helper units.
