Save the last 2 MK1 motor coaches ever built for SR EMU's. These two coaches have been modified for departmental use and still operate on their BR MK6 motor bogies albeit without their motors. Currently numbered DB999605 (62482) and DB999602 (62483), these units spend a lot of their time travelling all over the country and are worthy candidates for preservation once they have served their time with the departmental system. These coaches were built in 1975 and were in unit 3015/2015. This REP was the second unit, after 3008, to be taken out of service for removal of the motors for the 442 EMU's. It spent some of its time at Bournemouth before being taken to Cardiff Cathays for conversion. 62482 was put in store for a future conversion whilst 62483 was substantially rebuilt for use within the track analysis train sandwiched between to ex-DMU cars. (The DMU driving cabs inherited the driver’s side windows from the EMU).
1901, pictured here, was the first 4-REP to be treated to a repaint and partial rebuild. It emerged from Eastleigh minus its original centre cars and inherited two ex 4-TC trailer centre cars. This occurred after all the combinations of ED traction, ED's plus 3-REP's and the good old faithful 33/1's.
