How come the largest union in the ua never has anything on its message board.Maybe we should take a hint from roadtrash or roadsite .When times are tough why aren't the union brothers posting jobs for other brothers? Guess were not united like the pipefitters!____
First off, this isn't Local 669's message board. Neither RSFLU #669 or the United Association has anything to do with this board. It's a meeting place and discussion group set up primarily for the members. I don't know the answer to why our union brothers aren't posting any job info. So I'm not going to attempt to answer for them. I've always hoped there would be more sharing here at the site, and there has been some beneficial information shared in the past, but not as much as I had hoped. There are less than 300 members signed up on this board, which when compared to our total membership numbers, equals to a very minute percentage of our members. Perhaps each of us should be urging others to join, in order to increase our overall presence here on the web. Maybe then we could begin to see an increase in job listings. I don't know the answer, and I have tried to figure out what the secret formula is for getting our members more involved in "we" rather than "me", but so far I have not been able to work out the math. Perhaps you have a solution?

If we were united as much as the pipefitters we would probably be making more money by now.

You have to take into consideration that Bill and Frosty and those guys on Roadtrash have a much larger pond in which to draw active minded members. I have all the respect in the world for these guys. They are caring members who want to help. But you also have to take into consideration there are over 300,000 UA members and Roadtrash has a little over 5,000 members signed up on the board. So when you do the math, you see they have a very small percentage of the total members signed up as well. We are all just trying to help, but without the members grabbing their end of the pipe and sharing the load, it makes for a very difficult task.
I wish I could help with locations of projects and manpower requests, but I've turned into one of those old farts who is out of the loop, and now draws a retirement. I've been where you're at and had some of the same thoughts as many of you now are sharing. That is one of the reasons this board was begun...for communication which I couldn't find anywhere else. It hasn't worked as well as I had hoped, but it is a venue "if or when" the membership makes that decision or commitment to actively participate. One thing I have learned is that communication is key to everything, and learning it's more about us than it is about me is one of those continuing educational lessons I study every single day.
In solidarity,
