Hi y'all...
Have any one of you tried using the AddressBookOutlook Tool to export
Outloook Express Address Book into TW 5.1 Directory?
I can't get it to work... I mean... The addresses are not exported into my
TW Address Book...

I know it. I used it very much when I created the Romanian
version of the TWO clients. But it's just a general thing,
with many important notions not included or insufficient
explained. And it's very far from an FAQ.
I'm sorry if I seem to make so many obsevations and critics
toward TeamWARE. Don't understand me wrong. I know the good
parts of TeamWARE (otherwise I wouldn't get so much invloved).
But 100 good things can be very easy forgot by the customer
if he gets stucked in one bad things. That's why I make so
much noise about the things that, IMHO, need to be corrected.
And a question: could everyone confirm that they are getting
these messages? Since I moved the lists to the new server,
the only messages I received are from Colin.

FAQs, Quick Guides and Trips and Tricks are definetly required.
I can promise that, depending on my time and experience, I would help.
I can even compile them to PDF (but that's the simple part;
the content is more important).
I anyone has any suggestions or basic guidlines about what
would they expect in such documents, please write them to the
list. Put them in a different discussion thread, something
like "Docs suggestions".

Hi !
I have some problems in Office since I went from 5.2 to
5.3. Maybe someone can give me a hint about what's going on:
- there are entries in Directory that can't be deleted or
modified. When I try to delete them I get the error
"An internal error accured. (1,5220)". No error appears
in to.log. When I try to modifiy them, I get "Required
object cannot be found". I haven't found any connectiond
between the offending entries.
- I can do a backup of the databases (tobckup), but no
restore (torest). I get "115715 Failed to read attribute
information of file from restored medium.". As usual,
the help doe not gives me any clue.
And yes, I did to restore and to resume many times.

Admin: Sebastian Paul Avarvarei, proteus@...
Hello everyone!
This weekend I planned to reinstall my NT machine which runs
TW Office, because it was old (12 month - too much for NT) and
it began to make me all kind of problems.
I copied the whole Office server folder, I reinstalled NT/SP3
from the scratch, I installed TWO, and then I copied the files
required from the old server (everything done by the book -
Admin Guide, vol. 2).
But, surprise! The TWO won't start. You'll find at the end of the
message the part from to.log containing the error. I thought I
didn't enter the right server password, so I tried again. And
again... I tried then more "non-standard" recovery scenarios.
Nothing.
At one point, even the setup program refused to work (don't
remember the error number). It looked like it didn't delete
something from Registry, but unlike at 5.2, I couldn't figure
out which keys had problems.
Then I installed SP5, and repeated the exact same procedure
(with the same passwords) like the first time. Now comes
the real surprise: it worked! Me and the colleagues I recently
convinced to try TWO can access our data again!
But this costed me almost the whole Saturday to Sunday evening
and night. And the databases contained a lot of vital
informations, so you understand what I risked.
My point: there are some things in TWO Server that must be fixed
right away. I said the same at 5.2 version, but I don't see
many improvements in 5.3. Here are the prolems I'm annoyed by:
1. There are no really useful admin tools. Sometimes the admin
just has no clue about what's going on in the server.
2. The error messages are of no help. For the really big problems
(data corruption, wrong server passwords and so on), the
messages don't give any idea about what's exactly wrong, so
you just don't know what to do to rescue your vital data.
3. The backup tool are very bad. And since I upgraded to 5.3
version, I can backup, but I can't restore. All it says is
"Can't read attribute informations". Very usefull, right?
So I think something should be done about this. What do you
think?

Sebastian Paul Avarvarei

Sorry, I think I was not very clear. I was refering to
updating a document in Library via Web Service. I click
the "New Version" icon, I get the New Version frame,
I can modify the text of the document, but the changes
made in the attachments are not saved in the new version.
Using the standard Library client everything is OK.
There are some suggestions I would like to make, but I
leave them for another time.

I like Web service too - you can test it on http://www-tw.ucl.kiev.ua
It's very useful tool for access a document, check new mail or read
forums
remotely.
But as I know it's possible to do buffer overflow for Web service from
TWO 5.3
by the same way as for IIS4
(Hannu informed about it).

Hi!
Hope anyone can help me with this. I recently upgraded Office
from 5.2 to 5.3. Apparently everything was worknig fine, until
yesterday, when I tried doing a backup and a restore (to clean
and compact the databases).
The backup (using tobkup) went OK, but I was very suprised to
see that I can't restore from the backup I just created. I get
the following errors:
4[TCPIP]:172.30.1.29
#tostart# ERROR 1999-06-24 18:40.30 pid:105/78 69/4e 1
115902 System error. Information: Read File Attribute Information.

115715 Failed to read attribute information of file from restored
medium. information:-1
4[TCPIP]:172.30.1.29
#tostart# ERROR 1999-06-24 18:40.31 pid:105/78 69/4e 1
115701 Restore ended abnormally.
Of course, the admin.hlp did not helped me much. Just a
short note that I should contact TeamWARE.
Has anyone else had similar problems? Or it's just because
of my old NT (8 months since last insatallation).
BTW: I think I saw somewhere on the CDs a document about
upgrading the server from 5.3 to 5.3, but I just can't find
it now. Any hints?
Best regards,
Sebastian Paul Avarvarei

He's subscribed to the list, and if he can help, I'm sure
he will. But I think it's more a question for the development
teams.
Anyway, it's kind of frustrating to have a Web server and
not to be able to expand it.

I think this can be done. I'll think about it. But I think
we should hear from the others too. Using the mailing list
name as sender protects the privacy of the sender. We will
see. I will test to see if technically is possible.
But what do you think about the Web service. Is it interesting
to you? I prefer the classic e-mail, but if there are
requests for a Web access to the lists, it can be done.
It should be useful at least for browsing the old messages.
Best regards,
Sebastian

Sorry, I have no answers for your question
You may forward your request to Hannu P. - he can help.
Sebastian, I have one suggestion - it's not good to receive all messages
from
"Office List"
when a recognition of sender depend on signature.
You can use From: and Reply-To: fields in message - the first will have
real
name of sender
and the second serve for correct replying to your mail-list.

Hi everyone!
I have a question for those who played with Office 5.3
Does anybody knows if there is possible to make CGI calls
using Web Service? If yes, where should the CGI programs
be? (I haven't seen any cgi-bin folder).
And does anybody knows if there are plans for making public
the specifications for Web programming of Office? It's
pretty hard to determine the syntax and parameters from
the HTML files.
Best regards,
Sebastian Paul Avarvarei
