We are in the process of updating our label maker. Can anyone offer insight into
what you are using now and comments regarding same?
Thank you in advance for you reply.
Sincerely,
Jim Ellsworth
Genco Industries Inc.
Jim,
Try this:
Step 1: [(OD of Terminal Layer)^2 - (ID of Reel)^2] X 0.7854 = Area of
Terminals
Step 2: (Height of Part + Interliner Thickness if any) X Progression = Area of
Part
Step 3: "Area of Terminals" / "Area of Part" = "Parts on Reel"
Notes:
1. "ID of Reel" can be also read as "ID of Terminal Layer"
2. Results will vary depending upon the tightness of the wind.
Let me know how well this works for you. Good Luck.

Subject: [WHMA] CALCULATING THE AMOUNT OF TERMINALS LEFT ON A REEL
Date: Mon, 12 Oct 2009 17:24:55 -0000
As we near the end of the year, our annual physical inventory is coming up.
One area we also struggle with is the estimate of the amount of terminals left
on any given reel. Can any one share what they have found to be a best practice
in this particular endeavor.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.

We attach a perpetual inventory tag to every reel. Than when an operator
finishes a job she/he writes down the usage and subtracts from the last
remaining total. Annual inventory is easy.

One method is to weigh a reel known to hold a given amount (i.e. a new reel of
10,000), weigh a sampling of terminals from that reel (in order to arrive at an
approx per term weight), weigh an empty reel (tare). When inventory time rolls
around, weigh the partial reels, subtract their tare & compare to 'per term'
weight. The difference should get you close to actual qty on-hand.

T Baker

I am looking either borrow a Tyco applicator: 567336-3 or send someone
about 100 wire samples to be crimped for a customer of mine. The
product is in prototype stages and may change so leasing or purchasing
this applicator does not make sense at this point.
