Heather's Work at Home Idea:


I started making "Nubbins" nearly 5 years ago. With a little help
from my Grandma we created something that looks like a one-piece baby
outfit out of a pair of tube socks! Although I don't do this anymore
I did experiment with coloring the socks with fabric dye, and I would
make them pink, blue and yellow. I decorated the front with materials
and hung it with wooden baby clothes pins on twine from a wooden
plaque. I did this for awhile as a hobby, then had my last of 5
children - got busy with baby and stopped making Nubbins altogether
for quite some time. About a year ago I started back up again. My 10
year old daughter had mentioned that the teacher in the next class to
hers was expecting, so I made her a Nubbin and sent it the next day.
From that I got 3 other teachers asking for one! It was exciting to
see everybody's reaction! I took one as a gift to a baby shower and
everyone was so inquisitive and the compliments just came from all
directions! The more I shared Nubbins and saw how people adored them
the more enthusiastic I became about selling them. Many women wanted
to make them as well so I made up a kit that contained the materials
they would need to create a Nubbin! It was a hit! I figured for all
the mom's at home desiring to earn extra money, like me - I would
make a kit that shares the "how-to's" in it for them to get started
doing this!

My site is called "Nubbins by Heather" I sell Boy, Girl and Neutral
colored Nubbins. Holiday Nubbins: Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Saint
Patrick's Day, Valentines, and 4th of July! I also take special
requests if there is a certain theme that baby's nursery is being
decorated. I have kits available for anyone who would like to make
their own, and another kit called "Nubbin Kit Plus" where there is a
booklet to help you get started in making this fun craft a business.
Nubbins really sell themselves they are so unique. They can be
personalized with baby's name also and hang easily with a simple tack.
What's really neat about giving a Nubbin as a gift is the surprise of
it, Sometimes people will guess right off that it's made from a pair
of socks, and the ones who don't are elated when they find out - it
just makes it that much cuter!

Handcrafted items are always valued and adored - it's that sweetness
that comes from the heart! Store bought items can be pretty, and many
necessities that a new mom requires are store bought - but Nubbins
can really steal the show at a baby shower! They are a lot of fun!
