Welcome to the Norfolk Southern West Virginia Secondary Discussion List!
Today's West Virginia Secondary was originally part of the Toledo & Ohio Central system spanning between Toledo, Ohio, and Charleston, West Virginia, via Columbus, Ohio. It was constructed off and on between the late 1860s and the mid-1880s. The T&OC remaining north of Columbus is the CSXT Toledo Branch and Scottslawn Secondary. The West Virginia Secondary is actually made up of the former T&OC (Columbus to Corning, O.) and Kanawha & Michigan (Corning, O. to Charleston, WV) that eventually became part of the New York Central System. Since then, NYC went on to become part of Penn Central, which in turn became a major part of ConRail. And in 1999, ConRail was split almost evenly between Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.
The primary goal of this List is to disperse information regarding the history of the line, current rail movements, railfan reports, unique sightings, and much more. If the route in its entirety, a small portion, or anything remotely related to the former T&OC/K&M/NYC/PC/CR line interests you, we encourage you to join us.
Any information relating to the adjacent Virginian is also encouraged, as the current arrangement of NS ownership has a direct cause-and-affect between the two lines.
