Great news about the New Yahoo! Search, have a look at the 2nd
quote!...
"From a business point of view, Yahoo's search makeover is all about
driving greater usage of its search box, which theoretically should
boost revenue because an increasing amount of Internet advertising is
targeted to search results. You'll notice Yahoo is scrapping most
banner ads atop its search pages and -- copying Google again --
adding text-based ads in the right-hand margin. "

Hi all,
Would love to know your views on the new Y! search. Is it a winner or
not? I quite like it, about time they revamped and updated their
search, very glad Yahoo! finally included an image search.
I'm quite impressed with the amount of promotion Yahoo! is giving the
new search too... lots of buzz... regulary banners on CNET.com &
other external promotion.
Wonder what else will change when they've fully integrated their
Inktomi acquisition...
Anyway, please feel free to share your thoughts & vote in our new
poll question: The new Y! Search: Market share winner or not?
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/yahoofreaks
The changes at Yahoo! Search are great. Keep those innovations coming
guys... shouldn't be too hard with Inktomi's knowhow...
Like the image search, yahoo! really needed to add that feature.
Their previous image database was appaling and not integrated into Y!
search.
I think they'll be giving Google a run for their money...
Can't wait to see the new Y! search bar integrated all over the
platform either...

Like how they incorporate other Yahoo! properties like classifieds &
shopping. Though they really should do the same for auctions too...
lol... maybe not. But Sony actually started that lawsuit against
Launch.com before Yahoo! bought it. And recently settled so they
still could be good pals. ;) After all they do apparently have quite
a strong marketing relationship. (Sony on Y!, Y! on Viao
computers...)

Yahoo! winning market share over Google...
Inktomi takeover...
And did anyone notice the highprofile Yahoo! searchbox on Yahoo! Mail
this friday?? ... it's down now again though...

Google still top search engine but Yahoo gaining claims OneStat.com
research.
Internet Business News Published 01/28/03
Web analytics company OneStat.com has reported that the Yahoo search
engine has gained ground on Google over the past two months. The
company found that Google still had the highest global usage share
with 54.7% although in the past two months Yahoo had risen from 20.6%
to 22.1%. Conversely, over the past two months Google's usage share
has fallen by 0.4%. OneStat.com claims that Yahoo's global usage
share has not been as high as it is now since April 2002.
yahoo was sued by sony music group recently because of the LAUNCH.
they don't seem cozy too me. :)

Hopefully the first of many high profile multimedia offerings.
My killer premium service would still be a Yahoo! Vision offering
where you can choose a few channels like Financevision, movievision,
sportsvision, etc. and pay a monthly fee...
What I think could catch on too is a massive multiplayer online game,
which could even be played on Playstation (since Yahoo! & Sony seem
quite cosy together.)
Well, we've seen our fair share of surveys in 2002 and for some we're
still awaiting the results... The survey for Y! groups and Y! message
boards hasn't brought us any changes yet, but I'm sure we can look
forward to them in 2003.
The next survey, and undoubtedly next site relaunch is for Yahoo!
pets:
http://pets.yahoo.com/
The survey is at: http://pets.surveys.yahoo.com/ypetssurvey
I just noticed the redesign too. Great! It's a huge & much needed
improvement. Though Yahoo! should continiously improve their
sportsite. I'm expecting more broadband items too like video &
audio... Glad to see the change finally took place though.
Maybe a few links to sport memorabilia on Yahoo! Auctions couldn't
hurt either?

Free Listing Day is Wednesday, January 15
Wednesday, January 15 is a free listing day on Yahoo! Auctions. For
one day only, we've waived the listing fees on every item you submit.
Between 12:01 a.m. PST and 11:59 p.m. PST on Wednesday, you can
submit as many auctions as you like for free.
Buyers, mark your calendars and get ready to bid! Last year, our free
listing days generated thousands of new auctions. There were great
items in hundreds of popular auction categories.
Sellers, list your stuff on Yahoo! Auctions and make great profits.
We're keeping fees low and providing great extras for free. Upload
images; use the Seller's Manager to track your inventory; create a
custom look with your own Auction Booth - all at no additional cost!
Thanks! I'm a bit late but I wish you all the best for 2003 & far
beyond too.

Does anyone know if in the future, will yahoo support Netscape
Navigator again? Would be nice to see the same integration that IE
has, in Navigator. I use to be a die hard IE user but the new
Navigator just has some real nice features that IE doesn't, and I
would like quick access through Navigator to yahoo just like I have
with IE. Sorry for rambling one!
From what I can tell, for now you don't get a special browser. What
you do seem to get is a beefed up 'My Yahoo!' page with an overview
of all your features.
Would like a cool Yahoo! browser like the one with SBC Access
though ;)

"Called Yahoo! Plus, the $9.95-per-month service gives users a choice
of a variety of services, such as a customized toolbar that travels
with users, allowing them to choose from 60 buttons to directly hit
favorite destinations on the Web. Plus also comes with anti-virus
software via Computer Associates' eTrust EZ Antivirus, as well as
spam control and ZoneAlarm hacker protection. Users also get 25 MB of
e-mail storage and 50 MB data storage, in addition to parental
controls. According to a Yahoo! spokesperson, pricing and features
can vary."
Great news, almost 3 years late... Yahoo! finally launches Yahoo!
Paydirect internationally... first on the list is Yahoo! UK,
hopefully more to follow soon.
http://uk.paydirect.yahoo.com/
Could this be a reaction to the Ebay-Paypal merger? Hope so, Yahoo!
has lost enough time & neglected too much opportunities in the past.
Time they acted decisively...
We all know how much Yahoo! Auctions needs to be featured on the US
main page... alas...
What's intersting is that in other countries like Australia and
Sweden:http://se.docs.yahoo.com/auctions/index.html
Auctions are featured loads of times on the main page & with success.
I've added the Swedish URL because it's an example of the Yahoo!-QXL
cobranded site... really not much to it I'm afraid... expected more
of it.
New look & new featured Auctions feature!
Sellers now have the chance to rotate their listings on front page of
Yahoo! Auctions & front page of subsections. This for the lofty fee
of 3.00$ a day. Very nice extra though, is that auctioneers using
this feature can join other showcases for free.
