Fortune Magazine has a great story about Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz... check it out!
Yahoo's taskmaster
Carol Bartz is shrewd, strong-minded, blunt, and disciplined. (Don't even think
about leaking company information!) But can this no-nonsense tech veteran come
up with a plan to save Yahoo?

Hi all,
Yahoo! Freaks certainly isn't into spamming and sending inapropriate
material to its members. The abusive material has been removed from
the archive and from now on all new member posts will be moderated.
This does limit new members somehow but hopefully this will solve
the spam problem.
In the meantime feel free to discuss appropriate Yahoo! & internet
related topics on this list.
Friendly regards,
Tom

All I can say is splendid!! Yahoo! has just bought one of the UK's
most popular music site dotmusic.com AND gamesdomain.co.uk. The
acquisition also gives Yahoo! an edge in music downloads as dotmusic
is a known player in that field too. Though honestly I'd rather see
Yahoo! teaming up with Itunes... but that's another story.
Yahoo buys BT music site, mulls European downloads

It seems Yahoo! is serious about their Auctions once again. A new user
survey is up at:
http://surveys.yahoo.com/auctions_survey/ud/body_3.html
Surely with the inktomi/overture knowhow and Yahoo!'s enormous network
Yahoo! Auctions can prosper once again...?
Well, it's an exciting Yahoo! World we live in today isn't? With all
those acquisitions.
Have a look at all those search companies & tools Yahoo! has
acquired. Have you got any favorites?

LOTS of search tools & great search destinations. How on earth is
Yahoo! gonna combine them? I hope it won't just be redirecting the
URL's to yahoo.com and a few mechanical twitches...
Yahoo Closes Australian Auction Site
By Ina Steiner
AuctionBytes.com
August 07, 2003
Members of Yahoo's Australian auction site SOLD.com.au received word
that the site is shutting down on August 20. The announcement
directed
users to eBay.com.au. Current auctions will continue to run, but SOLD
stopped accepting the submission of new auction items. Members will
be
able to use their IDs for all other Yahoo services, such as Mail and
Shopping. No reason was given for the closure.
Yahoo had purchased SOLD.com.au from F2, the online interactive
network
of John Fairfax Holdings, in April 2001. Later that year, eBay
Australia took over auction site goFish from News Ltd.
In related news, sources say eBay is consolidating customer service
into three locations worldwide: Germany; Vancouver, Canada; and a
planned
site near Dublin, Ireland; leading to layoffs in some global offices,
including Australia.
Things seem to be moving for something big at Yahoo! shopping, but in
the meantime auctioneers can enjoy a free listing da TODAY:
http://auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/
Well, again I like what I see at Yahoo!. Things are moving again...
First the several Yahoo! search innovations & acquisitions (Inktomi,
Overture)...
And there are even more big things coming along. If you're lucky you
might find some hints in the surveys Yahoo! is currently conducting.
Some of them got a Nondisclosure agreement which for a Yahoo! survey
is a first, if i'm not mistaken?
Well, good news I guess. Predicted ages ago by many and although, I
think this is the easy way - why not - Semmel wouldn't say no to easy
cash and why should he?
I'm hoping for some more Yahoo! action - but the combined powers of
Yahoo! - Inktomi & overture... looks enormously impressive!
And a detail I think many won't pay much attention too, Overture
bought ALLTHEWEB - a very good Googlelike search engine some
predicted could overthrow the search king & Altavista. Though
Altavista may not be the biggest search power on the net, still quite
popular in Europe. This might mean Yahoo! will take over Altavista in
the countries Yahoo! hasn't launched its properties yet and rebrand
them into the Yahoo! international network and finally become a
player in the smaller European markets too. MSN is profiting too much
of their first mover advantage right now!

Here are some hot Yahoo! rumours... anyone else picked up something
interesting ?
"Yahoo was rumored to be interested in buying E-Spotting, the leading
paid-search company in Europe, which boasts of having $100 million in
annual sales."
"Google could buy Moreover, a Reuters-funded news-gathering site that
competes with Google News, Goodman speculated. "Moreover is going to
sign a deal with Yahoo to make Yahoo's news a little better," said
Goodman, suggesting that Google might do the deal just to take it
away from Yahoo."
"Apple Computer Inc.'s (NasdaqNM:AAPL - News) popular online music
service has media and technology companies such as Microsoft Corp.
(NasdaqNM:MSFT - News) and Yahoo Inc. (NasdaqNM:YHOO - News) looking
into their own competing versions, the Los Angeles Times reported,
citing unnamed sources and company officials."
It's been a while so Yahoo! has just announced a new FLD... hope
they'll promote it well.
"05/12/03 Free Listing Day is this Wednesday, May 14
Yahoo! Auctions is pleased to announce a free listing day this
Wednesday, May 14. All auctions submitted between 12:01am PDT and
11:59pm PDT on Wednesday will not be subject to listing fees (other
fees still apply)."
